What to do
Work the specific findings rather than chasing the number. A page that answers in its first paragraph beats a longer one that gets there eventually.
How it works
- An article is scored out of 70 for its writing in two groups: answers the question (a clear opening answer, sections that start with their answer, headings that say what they answer) and original and trustworthy (first-hand experience, letting the reader finish the job, naming products clearly, reading naturally). Product and service pages have their own checks.
- The other 30 points are the page's technical checks, including a named author on an article. An FAQ block, a summary box or FAQ markup earns nothing on its own.
- We score the page against criteria, and that can’t promise a citation. A good page still goes uncited if nothing links to it or nobody asks about the topic.
